Another I-540 improvement for travelers ready to go
NCDOT has improved westbound I-540 at the point where the road begins at the US 64 Knightdale Bypass junction in eastern Wake County. Travelers headed from US 64 (I-495 and soon to be signed I-87) to I-540 now have a longer and realigned merge area to reduce delays and simplify travel. This is an excellent, low-cost, high value win. Kudos NCDOT!
RTA engaged in Triangle Expressway automated vehicle proving ground effort
This week, I participated in the first Automated Vehicle Proving Ground partnership meeting, convened by the NC Turnpike Authority. RTA endorsed the Turnpike’s successful application to become a USDOT automated vehicle proving ground site and we are a partner in the project. Like most autonomous travel initiatives, this will be an evolving process. I am pleased to report that some of the best minds in transportation from various universities and institutes are involved with this partnership.
RDU parking deck enhancements moving forward
While we have been celebrating a number of big wins at Raleigh-Durham International in the past few months, we also want to highlight the ongoing improvements that are needed to keep RDU the world-class facility we enjoy. It is good to see that the project to enhance and extend the life of the RDU Park Central parking deck – the largest covered parking area near the terminals – is on track and 30% complete. Be sure to allow a little extra time to park while these improvements progress; you can easily check the real-time status of all RDU parking options on the rdu.com homepage.
Your support of RTA helps to ensure a continued regional business focus on transportation – thank you for your membership!
