RDU celebrates its best month ever…
The Triangle Business Journal reported that RDU has experienced 40 straight months of passenger growth, with June 2017 being the best single month in RDU’s 74-year history. Our market is growing rapidly and the passenger numbers at our hometown international airport are reflecting this.

and achieves 50 nonstop milestone
Frontier Airlines announced two new nonstop destinations from RDU Airport: Kansas City and Providence, which means RDU will soon provide nonstop service to 50 markets. Frontier will also launch new nonstop service to Austin, which will be RDU’s second nonstop flight to the Texas Capital after Delta Air Lines introduced the service earlier this year. Success begets success and there is more to come.

Learn about upcoming I-440 widening in southwest Raleigh
An improved I-440 is a needed response to growth in our market and to improve traffic and safety along the Beltline corridor in west Raleigh. Thanks to the statewide Strategic Transportation Investments legislation, the project is fully funded with construction slated to begin next year. The construction process will take time – you can learn about the proposed widening and interchange improvement options at a public meeting on Aug. 8 – but the result will be worth it.

5 year anniversary of Bus on Shoulder System
This week marks the 5th anniversary of our region’s Bus on Shoulder System (BOSS)—the first in NC and among the largest in the U.S. RTA spearheaded the push for bus on shoulder in concert with GoTriangle and NCDOT through the I-40 Regional Partnership. The BOSS pilot began in Durham County in 2012 and the program expanded to Wake County in 2013. There could be future opportunities for BOSS expansion as improvements are made and transit service expands on routes such as I-40, I-440, I-540, I-87, and future I-885.

Thank you for strengthening the voice of the regional business community on transportation solutions as a member of the RTA!

Let’s get moving,

Joe
