Triangle cities to use single mobile parking app
The City of Raleigh announced this week that it will implement pay-by-phone parking citywide beginning this fall. The Passport app allows drivers to purchase on-street metered parking, extend their stay, and avoid citations. Durham implemented Passport Parking when it launched metered parking in certain areas of the city last year. Parking lies at the intersection of individual mobility and accessibility, and this common mobile app for our two cities is a truly welcome addition to the regional landscape. Speaking of parking innovations, remember that you can now reserve terminal parking at RDU Airport online and take advantage of special discounts.
Airport says “let’s refresh RDU”
Our partners at RDU Airport have launched a “RDU Refresh” program to keep our hometown international airport looking and working great for visitors and residents. Repaving portions of the internal ring road between the terminals (i.e., the extension of Airport Boulevard known as John Brantley Blvd.) began earlier this month, with repaving of the primary park-and-ride lot (RDU Economy 3, nearest to I-40) starting next month, and an expansion of the Terminal 2 security lines commencing later this fall. Major construction projects are important, but proper maintenance and timely modernization efforts are essential for continued success of any facility, product or service – kudos to RDU for keeping our airport looking fresh!
Does transportation relate to a “destination strategic plan”? Read on.
Last week I had the opportunity to speak at a strategy session immediately preceding the annual meeting of the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, one of our outstanding RTA Leadership Team members. At the meeting itself, GRCVB leadership unveiled their complete destination strategic plan, to be known as Destination 2028. RTA is mentioned in the plan for our past and upcoming efforts to reduce traffic congestion and beautify major interchanges. RTA is pleased to partner with GRCVB and all area tourism leaders on these and other related initiatives to enhance the visitor travel experience including improving overall guidance and signage.
Thank you for strengthening the voice of the regional business community on transportation through your membership in RTA!
Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
