Regional Transportation Alliance
2016 RTA Leadership Briefing and Field Visit to Northern Virginia:
Commuter Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, Bikeshare and Emerging Innovations

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

Around 50 business, elected, and transportation leaders participated in the Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition’s 2016 Leadership Briefing and Field Visit to the Northern Virginia area on June 28.

Trip participants gained first-hand experience and insight about transit innovations including bus rapid transit and commuter rail – primary components of the Wake Transit plan and elements of approved plans in both Durham and Orange counties.

Attendees learned about the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail service and the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway bus rapid transit system in the City of Alexandria and Arlington County. We also visited Capital Bikeshare stations and received an overview presentation about Olli, a new automated mobility solution being micro-manufactured in nearby National Harbor, Maryland.
