2016 Leadership Briefing and Field Visit:
Commuter Rail, Bus Rapid Transit, Bikeshare and Emerging Innovations 
Tuesday, June 28 — Northern Virginia area

Around 50 business, elected, and transportation leaders participated in the Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition’s 2016 Leadership Briefing and Field Visit to the Northern Virginia area on June 28.

Trip participants gained first-hand experience and insight about transit innovations including bus rapid transit and commuter rail – primary components of the Wake Transit plan and elements of approved plans in both Durham and Orange counties.

Attendees learned about the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail service and theCrystal City Potomac Yard Transitway bus rapid transit system in the City of Alexandria and Arlington County. We also visited Capital Bikeshare stations and received an overview presentation about Olli, a new automated mobility solution being micro-manufactured in nearby National Harbor, Maryland.

Regional Transportation Alliance
2015 RTA Leadership Briefing and Tour
Sunday, April 26- Tuesday, April 28, 2015 — Austin, Texas

Conducted as part of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Inter-City Visit and Leadership Conference to Austin, Texas.

RTA members and partners participated in all meals and all plenary sessions with more than 100 fellow Inter-City Visit participants from Sunday arrival through Tuesday morning breakfast.

The agenda featured a transportation program highlighting the recent $1 billion light rail and road improvement bond that was voted down by a 14% margin as well as a transportation breakout session on urban freeway innovations coordinated by RTA. The agenda concluded with an alternative session on air service with the Austin Chamber of Commerce.

The 2014 RTA Leadership Briefing and Tour presented one of America’s leading examples of transportation and land use innovations in Carmel, Indiana, the roundabout capital of the United States and “Best Place to Live in America” (CNN Money Magazine, 2012), along with an opportunity to learn about proposed enhanced transit options in the Indianapolis region, one of the most vibrant metropolitan areas in the Midwest, and to discuss opportunities to improve air service.

Business, government, and civic leaders from the Research Triangle region of North Carolina received an overview presentation and walking and driving tours of urban design, intersection, corridor, and walkability improvements in Carmel, the leading “edge city” in the Indianapolis region. Attendees also heard from regional transportation executives advancing a new vision for transit in greater Indianapolis, as well as from past and current elected leaders from Indianapolis, the capital and largest city of Indiana.  We also had a conversation with chamber and airport staff about air service enhancements and innovative airport revenue options at Indianapolis International Airport.
